Drama As Unfolded At 2025 MotoGP Americas Gran Prix At COTA:
Rain-Induced Chaos Sets Stage for an Unpredictable Race
With Francesco Bagnaia emerging victorious after a chaotic race that saw Marc Marquez crash out from the lead, the 2025 MotoGP Americas Grand Prix at Circuit of The Americas (COTA) was nothing short of breathtaking. As unpredictable weather conditions added to the spectacle, fans were treated to one of the most dramatic races of the season.
Rain before the race created mayhem, forcing last-minute tire strategy changes. Fabio Quartararo suffered a sighting lap crash but managed to return to the grid, while Marc Marquez and several other riders rushed to the pits to switch to slick tires. However, the confusion led to the race being red-flagged, prompting Race Director Mike Webb to initiate a delayed restart with the original grid positions.
Marc Marquez Seizes Early Control
Once the lights went out, Marc Marquez took the holeshot and built an early 1.1-second lead over his brother, Alex Marquez. Bagnaia, initially stuck behind Alex Marquez, managed to break free by Lap 4, overtaking him to move into second place. The Repsol Honda rider continued his charge, clocking quick lap times and extending his lead to two seconds.
Meanwhile, rookie sensation Pedro Acosta’s race ended in disappointment as he crashed while battling for P6.
Marquez’s Costly Error Hands Bagnaia the Win
Just as it looked like Marc Marquez was on his way to another dominant COTA victory, disaster struck. On Lap 7, the six-time MotoGP champion lost the front at Turn 4, sliding out of contention. Although he remounted in P18, significant damage to his GP25 meant his race was effectively over, forcing him to retire by Lap 13.
With Marquez out, Bagnaia took control, holding a steady lead over Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio. As the laps wound down, Bagnaia extended his advantage to three seconds, ensuring he would take the checkered flag unchallenged.
A Crucial Victory for Bagnaia, New Championship Leader Alex Marquez
Crossing the line first, Bagnaia secured his 30th MotoGP victory, marking a crucial milestone in his career. Behind him, Alex Marquez’s second-place finish propelled him to the top of the championship standings. Di Giannantonio completed the podium, securing an impressive P3.
Franco Morbidelli finished in fourth, while Jack Miller delivered his best Yamaha result yet, securing P5. Marco Bezzecchi, Enea Bastianini, Luca Marini, Ai Ogura, and Fabio Quartararo rounded out the top ten.
