Marquez Reigns Supreme in Doha
Marc Marquez stormed to a sensational victory at the MotoGP 2025 Qatar Grand Prix in Lusail, securing his second consecutive win and solidifying his lead in the championship. After a fierce battle with Maverick Viñales and Francesco Bagnaia, the #93 rider showed vintage form, clinching the top step on the podium with authority.
The race opened with chaos and contact between Marquez and his brother Alex at Turn 1. Franco Morbidelli seized the opportunity to grab the early lead, with Viñales and Marc hot on his heels. Despite the early setback, Marc quickly reasserted himself, overtaking Morbidelli and Bagnaia in a tightly contested fight at the front.
Viñales Shines, Then Slips with Tyre Penalty
Viñales, racing for Red Bull KTM Tech3, made a dazzling mid-race charge to lead for several laps. However, his final result took a dramatic twist post-race when he was handed a tyre pressure penalty, demoting him from second to 14th place. The penalty promoted Morbidelli to third place, while Bagnaia was bumped up to second — a welcome recovery after his Sprint disappointment on Saturday.
Morbidelli, who initially finished fourth, was the biggest benefactor, claiming his first podium of the season in what’s shaping up to be a strong campaign. Johann Zarco and rookie Fermin Aldeguer completed the top five following the reshuffling.
Bagnaia, Alex Marquez and Martin’s Mixed Fortunes
Bagnaia’s second-place finish was hard-earned. The Ducati ace battled past several riders early on and briefly challenged for the lead before settling into a secure third — which eventually became second. Meanwhile, Alex Marquez was handed a Long Lap Penalty for contact with Fabio Di Giannantonio, costing him several places. He recovered to finish sixth, ending his streak of consecutive podiums.
Jorge Martin’s weekend ended in heartbreak. The reigning World Champion crashed out and was diagnosed with a chest trauma and rib contusion. He was transported to hospital for further evaluation.
Final Points Scorers
Fabio Quartararo finished seventh ahead of Pedro Acosta, Marco Bezzecchi, and Luca Marini. Enea Bastianini (P11), Alex Rins (P12), Brad Binder, Viñales (post-penalty), and Ai Ogura completed the points.
