Porsche 911 Spirit 70 Debuts with Retro Design, Hybrid Tech and Heritage-Inspired Styling
Porsche has taken the wraps off its latest collector’s item — the 911 Spirit 70 — at the Shanghai Auto Show, celebrating the essence of 1970s and early 1980s automotive style with a future-forward twist. Limited to 1,500 units, this convertible masterpiece is the third model under Porsche’s Heritage Design strategy, combining iconographic design elements with state-of-the-art engineering.
A Tribute to Porsche’s Heritage
As part of Porsche’s ongoing celebration of its design history, the 911 Spirit 70 follows the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition (2020) and 911 Sport Classic (2022). The latest model reflects Porsche’s rich past, bringing back signature design motifs such as Pasha-pattern upholstery and historic color palettes while riding on cutting-edge hybrid performance technology.
Michael Mauer, VP Style Porsche, emphasized, “These vehicles go one step further. They show how we reinterpret historical design elements in a state-of-the-art sports car.”
Performance Meets Efficiency
The 911 Spirit 70 is based on the 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet and features a newly developed 3.6-litre boxer hybrid engine, paired with an eTurbo and electric motor integrated into the PDK gearbox. The result? A system output of 398 kW (541 hp) and 610 Nm of torque, offering exhilarating performance and improved efficiency. It’s Porsche’s bold step toward combining electrification with heritage.
Bold Exterior with Historic Flair
The exterior is finished in an exclusive Olive Neo color — a deep, rich green created specifically for this model. Contrasting Bronzite accents on the body, Fuchs-style wheels, and a black soft top reinforce the retro appeal. A trio of black silk gloss stripes on the hood nod to 1970s racing stickers, while the vintage Porsche crest and gold-colored badging underscore the car’s collector-grade status.
Inside the 70s-Inspired Cockpit
The cabin is a time capsule, led by the iconic black/olive Neo Pasha pattern — a dynamic reinterpretation of the chequered flag motif. Combined with club leather trim in basalt black, the interior offers both nostalgia and luxury. Even the glove box and door mirrors are Pasha-patterned. The fully digital instrument cluster mimics analog dials, incorporating white hands and green numerals reminiscent of the Porsche 356.
Porsche Lifestyle & Customization
In addition to the car, Porsche Design has created an exclusive chronograph that mirrors the Spirit 70’s interior. A lifestyle collection and even a new Apple Vision Pro app allow users to experience the spirit of the ’70s in an immersive way and personalize their dream 911.
The 911 Spirit 70 will arrive in European showrooms from April 2025, followed by other markets. As Porsche continues to evolve, this model proves that performance, personalization, and heritage can all ride together — beautifully.
