Marquez Shines at Jerez with Record-Equalling Sprint Win
This time in MotoGP 2025, Marc Marquez thrilled the passionate home crowd at the Estrella Galicia 0,0 Grand Prix of Spain by securing his fifth consecutive Tissot Sprint victory, matching reigning World Champion Jorge Martin’s record. The dramatic race saw polesitter Fabio Quartararo crash out early, paving the way for Marquez to dominate the Sprint and extend his championship lead.
A Dramatic Start: Quartararo’s Early Exit
Quartararo, starting from a historic pole position, initially reclaimed the lead from Marquez at Turn 1. However, disaster struck on Lap 2 at the Dani Pedrosa corner, where Quartararo, pushing hard on the dirtier outside line, lost the front end and crashed out of contention. His early exit dashed hopes of a repeat of his stunning Saturday performance and opened the door for Marquez to take control.
Marquez Controls the Race
Following Quartararo’s fall, Marc Marquez led brother Alex Marquez by half a second, with Francesco Bagnaia maintaining third position. Franco Morbidelli and impressive rookie Fermin Aldeguer rounded out the top five. Despite Alex Marquez briefly closing the gap, Marc Marquez extended his lead to over a second midway through the race and managed it flawlessly until the chequered flag.
Bagnaia settled for a solid third, unable to challenge the Marquez brothers but gathering valuable championship points. Morbidelli finished fourth, followed by Aldeguer in fifth, who impressed yet again in front of his home crowd.
