Marquez Dominates at Sachsenring in Landmark 200th MotoGP Start
At the MotoGP 2025 German GP, Marc Marquez put in a flawless ride, securing his ninth premier class victory at the Sachsenring on his 200th career start. The Gresini Ducati rider was in a league of his own from lights out, cruising to the win while chaos erupted behind him, including crashes for key podium contenders.
Alex Marquez finished second, despite racing with a fractured hand, on his 100th Grand Prix start, making it a dream day for the Marquez brothers. Francesco Bagnaia completed the podium in third after surviving a race of attrition that saw several frontrunners exit early.
Marquez Gets the Holeshot as Drama Builds Behind
With rain clouds receding before the race start, the Sachsenring stayed dry, and Marquez wasted no time grabbing the holeshot. Behind him, a strong launch from Fabio Di Giannantonio pushed him into third, soon overtaking Marco Bezzecchi for second.
Marquez, meanwhile, built a commanding gap in the opening laps, lapping consistently in the 1:20s while the rest of the field struggled to match his rhythm. By Lap 8, the lead had grown to 1.7s; by Lap 16, it was over 3 seconds.
High-Profile Crashes at Turn 1
The race turned turbulent mid-distance. Pedro Acosta, running P5, crashed at Turn 2, ending KTM’s podium hopes. The biggest drama came at Turn 1, however, where Di Giannantonio crashed out from second on Lap 18, followed shortly by Johann Zarco at the same corner.
Not long after, Bezzecchi, who had inherited P2, also fell at Turn 1. These three crashes elevated Alex Marquez to second and Bagnaia to third, reshaping the podium picture entirely.
SachsenKing Seals the Win, Alex and Pecco Complete Podium
With the chaos behind him, Marc Marquez, who also triumphed in the 2025 German GP Sprint, sailed to the chequered flag to collect his 69th career MotoGP victory, moving him ahead of Giacomo Agostini in the all-time win list and solidifying his title challenge.
“Different class,” as many in the paddock described his performance—especially as the #93 rider now eyes a seventh MotoGP title.
Alex Marquez delivered a heroic second-place finish while still recovering from injury, and Bagnaia salvaged critical championship points with a clean and composed ride to third.
