Michelin has officially extended its exclusive tyre supply agreement with the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Hypercar category through at least 2029, solidifying its long-standing role at the pinnacle of endurance racing. The renewal ensures that the French tyre giant will continue to support the series during its current era of significant growth and competitive resurgence.
Continuing a Legacy of Excellence Since 2012
As the exclusive tyre supplier to the Hypercar class since 2018, and a partner to the FIA WEC since its inception in 2012, Michelin has consistently demonstrated high performance, durability, and innovation. Its legacy in endurance motorsport stretches back over a century—having equipped the winning car in the very first 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1923, and remaining unbeaten at La Sarthe since 1998.
This rich heritage underpins Michelin’s renewed commitment, offering manufacturers and teams a trusted platform to perform under the extreme demands of endurance racing.
Eight Major Manufacturers on Michelin Tyres in 2025
In the upcoming 2025 season, Michelin will supply tyres to all Hypercar entries, including powerhouse manufacturers Alpine, Aston Martin, BMW, Cadillac, Ferrari, Peugeot, Porsche, and Toyota. The season kicks off with the Qatar 1812km on February 28, 2025, continuing a tradition of competitive and technologically advanced racing.
A Shared Vision of Innovation and Sustainability
The extended partnership reflects not only Michelin’s technical excellence but also a shared commitment with FIA WEC to sustainable innovation. Michelin has made strides in reducing the number of tyres used per event and increasing the proportion of renewable and recycled materials in its compounds. The next generation of MICHELIN Pilot Sport tyres will embody these eco-conscious goals without compromising on performance.
FIA WEC CEO Frédéric Lequien praised the partnership, stating that Michelin’s contribution has been “instrumental in delivering close, consistent racing while aligning with the championship’s future sustainability roadmap.” Automobile Club de l’Ouest President Pierre Fillon echoed the sentiment, describing Michelin as “a reference in innovation and sustainability.”
Michelin Motorsport Sees Endurance Racing as a Key Development Platform
Matthieu Bonardel, Director of Michelin Motorsport, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership:
“Endurance racing aligns perfectly with our Group’s ‘all-sustainable’ vision and reflects the values of long-lasting performance. This extension allows us to continue innovating and transferring race-derived technology to our road tyres.”
He also highlighted the value of the WEC platform in accelerating R&D collaboration with leading automotive manufacturers, and in showcasing Michelin’s advances to a growing global fanbase.
With this extended partnership, Michelin remains deeply embedded at the heart of FIA WEC’s top category, supporting its evolution into a more competitive, technologically advanced, and sustainable championship. As the Hypercar grid expands and audience interest continues to rise, Michelin’s tyres will once again be the silent foundation beneath some of the most iconic names in motorsport.
