Oscar Piastri Clinches Stunning Victory in Bahrain GP as McLaren Celebrates Milestone Win
A Landmark Victory at 50th Grand Prix Start
Oscar Piastri delivered a masterclass in consistency and composure to seize victory at the F1 2025 Bahrain Grand Prix. On his 50th Formula 1 start, the Australian driver converted pole position into a commanding win — marking his second victory of the season and McLaren’s first-ever triumph at Sakhir.
Piastri pulled away cleanly at the start, fending off a Turn 1 attack from George Russell, and never looked back. Even a mid-race Safety Car couldn’t shake his rhythm. After a clean restart, the 24-year-old rebuilt a solid gap, eventually crossing the finish line 15 seconds ahead of the competition.

McLaren Double Podium Despite Norris Penalty
Lando Norris, who was penalized five seconds for being out of position on the grid, showed immense grit and recovery speed. The Brit clawed his way back through the field, ultimately finishing third, just 0.774s behind Russell — who took second for Mercedes and faces a post-race investigation over a possible DRS infringement.
Piastri’s win and Norris’ podium give McLaren a strong championship foothold, underlining their rapid progress and race-day consistency.
Ferrari Solid, Red Bull Struggles
Charles Leclerc led the Ferrari charge in fourth, engaging in an exciting late-race duel with Norris. Lewis Hamilton followed in fifth in the sister SF-25, with both Ferraris showcasing solid race pace.
Red Bull endured a turbulent evening. Max Verstappen suffered issues in both pit stops and struggled with overheating throughout the race. Despite this, the Dutchman salvaged sixth place after a late move on Pierre Gasly.
Points for Alpine, Haas, and Red Bull Junior
Gasly finished seventh, securing Alpine’s first points of the season. Esteban Ocon followed in eighth for Haas, with Yuki Tsunoda collecting two points in ninth on his debut season as a Red Bull works driver. Rookie Ollie Bearman rounded off the top 10, making up significant ground from the back of the grid.
One Retirement, Many Battles
Carlos Sainz was the only retiree, his race ending due to damage from contact with Tsunoda. Other notable performances included strong early stints from Kimi Antonelli and Jack Doohan, although both missed out on points.
Where Next?
F1 now shifts to Jeddah for the 2025 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix from April 18–20 — the final race in the triple-header that kicked off the season. After two wins, Piastri looks like the driver to beat.
