The Race in 60 Seconds
Lando Norris delivered a masterclass in strategy and composure to win the F1 2025 Hungarian GP, narrowly beating McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri by just 0.698s. Charles Leclerc led early on from pole, but a bold one-stop strategy vaulted Norris into contention. George Russell completed the podium after overtaking a struggling Leclerc late in the race, while Fernando Alonso secured his best finish of the season in fifth.
“It was tough, it was tough,” Norris admitted post-race. “We weren’t really planning on the one-stop at the beginning, but after the first lap it was kind of our only option. The final stint with Oscar catching, I was pushing flat-out… the perfect result today.”
Norris Outpaces Piastri in Strategic Thriller
The Hungarian GP delivered one of the season’s most gripping finishes as Lando Norris executed an alternative one-stop strategy to perfection, holding off Oscar Piastri’s late charge at the Hungaroring.
Polesitter Charles Leclerc controlled the early laps, building a lead over Piastri. Both Ferrari and Piastri committed to two-stop plans, while Norris opted to stay out longer, eventually emerging as the race leader in the final stint.
Piastri’s Late Push Falls Short
With fresher tyres, Piastri began closing in on Norris, cutting the gap to under a second in the dying laps. Despite mounting two serious overtaking attempts, the Australian couldn’t find a way past his teammate. Norris crossed the line less than seven-tenths ahead, securing his fifth victory of the season and slashing Piastri’s Drivers’ Championship lead to nine points heading into the summer break.
Russell Overtakes Leclerc for Final Podium Spot
George Russell claimed third place for Mercedes, overtaking Leclerc after a tense wheel-to-wheel battle. Leclerc, struggling for grip and later handed a five-second penalty for erratic driving, had to settle for fourth.
Strong Performances in the Midfield
Fernando Alonso impressed with a P5 finish for Aston Martin, closely followed by his protégé Gabriel Bortoleto in sixth. Lance Stroll added more points in P7, with Liam Lawson, Max Verstappen, and Kimi Antonelli rounding out the top ten.
