Mitsubishi’s All-New Triton Clinches Japan Car of the Year Design Award for 2024–2025
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has announced that its all-new Triton one-ton pickup truck has won the Design Car of the Year at the prestigious 2024–2025 Japan Car of the Year awards. The accolade recognizes excellence in both exterior and interior vehicle design, and marks the second consecutive year Mitsubishi has received this award—following last year’s win for the Delica Mini kei-car.
A Pickup That Embodies Power and Purpose
The award jury praised the Triton’s bold and purposeful styling, highlighting how its design not only enhances its rugged off-road capabilities but also invites customers to embrace a more adventurous lifestyle. The truck’s “Beast Mode” design concept delivers an imposing yet agile appearance, aligning with the high expectations of modern pickup owners who demand both strength and sophistication.
At the front, Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design has been reimagined for the Triton. A three-dimensional grille merges seamlessly with aggressive fenders and protective cladding, delivering a sense of strength and safety. Despite its robust double-cab proportions, the vehicle maintains balanced dimensions that avoid looking oversized or cumbersome.
A Cabin Built for Comfort, Utility, and Modernity
Inside the all-new Triton, functionality meets refinement. The cabin features a Horizontal Axis instrument panel that enhances visibility and spatial awareness, particularly when navigating uneven terrain. Key touchpoints, including the steering wheel, door handles, and grip zones, are crafted with Mitsubishi’s “Touch” philosophy, combining comfort with durability.
The interior layout includes geometric shapes, soft pads for protection, and metallic accents to create a modern, high-contrast aesthetic. Every element is designed with professional use in mind: buttons and dials are glove-friendly, clearly marked, and intuitively placed—making it a practical yet stylish workspace for the road.
Mitsubishi Triton: A Global Icon Reimagined
The Triton nameplate, originally launched as the Forte in 1978, has built a strong global legacy with over 5.7 million units sold across more than 150 countries. The latest sixth-generation model is a complete overhaul, featuring a new ladder frame, chassis, and engine—developed under the theme “Power for Adventure.”
Manufactured in Thailand and introduced in Japan in early 2024, the new Triton is being rolled out across approximately 100 global markets. While remaining a reliable tool for commercial use, it also targets outdoor and adventure enthusiasts, supporting activities ranging from water and winter sports to off-road exploration.
Design That Drives the Future
Winning the Japan Car of the Year Design Award reflects Mitsubishi’s renewed focus on blending engineering innovation with emotionally resonant design. The Triton is not just a rugged workhorse; it’s a statement of lifestyle, capability, and future-ready aesthetics.
