Alex Marquez Dominates Silverstone Sprint with Tactical Masterclass
Alex Marquez claimed a spectacular victory in the Tissot Sprint at MotoGP 2025 Silverstone, outpacing brother and championship leader Marc Marquez to end the latter’s six-race Sprint win streak. The Gresini Ducati rider executed a flawless ride, pulling away in the closing stages to win by over three seconds.
The podium battle behind was pure MotoGP chaos, with Fabio Di Giannantonio emerging from an intense five-rider dogfight to secure third place—his first rostrum appearance since the Austin Grand Prix.
Marquez vs. Marquez: Early Lead Swap Lights Up Lap 1
From pole, Fabio Quartararo got the holeshot, but the Ducati train quickly surged forward. Marc Marquez made a daring move from fourth to take the lead at the end of Lap 1, overtaking both Alex and Quartararo. However, just when it looked like a familiar story for the #93, Alex struck back.
Marc ran wide at Turn 3 a few laps later, and Alex seized the opportunity to reclaim the lead. From there, the #73 set about building a gap, riding error-free under pressure and managing tyre wear to perfection.
Midfield Melee: Di Giannantonio Fends Off Bezzecchi and Bagnaia
With the top two clearing off at the front, the battle for third turned into a multi-rider war. Bagnaia moved past Quartararo early in the fight, and Diggia followed suit, but not before a thrilling intra-Fabio fight. As Johann Zarco and a charging Marco Bezzecchi joined the fray, chaos ensued.
Bezzecchi, who had dropped outside the top ten at the start, delivered a heroic ride to storm through the pack. He picked off Zarco, then Quartararo, and eventually even Bagnaia, only to run out of time to catch Diggia. Zarco followed close behind in fifth, while Francesco Bagnaia clung on to sixth ahead of Quartararo, who was unable to reclaim ground in the final laps.
Late Movers and Point Scorers
Further down the order, Pedro Acosta made a late push to secure eighth, edging out fellow rookie Fermin Aldeguer, who just missed out on points. Jack Miller held onto ninth after a strong early showing, rounding out the Sprint point scorers on Saturday.
