Proton Competition Confirms Full Mustang LMGT3 Line-Up for 2025 WEC, Vows “All In” for Glory
Proton Competition has finalized its driver roster for the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), confirming the four remaining drivers who will pilot its Ford Mustangs in the LMGT3 category. The team, fresh off a triumph at the 24 Hours of Daytona, is promising an “all-in” approach to secure LMGT3 glory.
Mustang Builds on Strong Foundations
The Ford Mustang, in its inaugural FIA WEC season last year, demonstrated significant potential with a podium finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and points scored in five out of seven races. Its prowess was further highlighted by a recent GTD Pro category win at the 24 Hours of Daytona, where a sister Mustang also secured third place.
#88 Mustang: A Blend of Experience and New Talent
The #88 Mustang will see Dennis Olsen, whose participation was confirmed late last year, joined by series newcomer Stefano Gattuso and fellow Italian Giammarco Levorato. Gattuso previously tested the Mustang at the Bahrain ‘Rookie Test’ in November, while Levorato was a runner-up for Proton Competition in the European Le Mans Series’ LMGTE division in 2023.
Olsen expressed excitement about returning to FIA WEC, noting the significant progress made over winter, evident at Daytona. He aims to improve on last year’s third-place finish at Le Mans, declaring, “I want to win it. We’ll go ‘all-in’!” Gattuso described his participation in FIA WEC as an “incredible opportunity” and a “dream come true,” expressing optimism about the car’s potential and the strength of their driver line-up.
#77 Mustang: Rally Champion Joins Endurance Stalwart
In the #77 car, long-standing FIA WEC competitor Ben Barker, a former Le Mans podium-finisher, will be partnered by countryman Ben Tuck and Bernardo Sousa. Sousa, a former Portuguese Rally Champion, is making the switch from rallying to endurance racing, highlighting his long-standing relationship with Ford.
Tuck, who competed at Le Mans last year in Proton’s third entry, stated that competing in FIA WEC has been his goal since he started racing. He looks forward to a “seamless introduction” to the full championship with Proton Competition and the Ford Mustang
Road to Qatar: Pre-Season Testing Underway
The 2025 FIA WEC season officially kicks off with the Qatar 1812km race on February 28, preceded by the traditional ‘Prologue’ group test at the same circuit. The team is now fully prepared to embark on what promises to be a competitive season.
