Yamaha Redefines the MT-07 for 2025: Lighter, Sharper, Smarter
The Yamaha MT-07, one of the most iconic models in Yamaha’s “Dark Side of Japan” MT series, returns for 2025 with a bold new identity. Known for its futuristic styling and torque-rich CP2 engine, the MT-07 has built a cult following worldwide. For 2025, Yamaha introduces a sharper design, weight reduction, enhanced performance features, and the option of a Y-AMT-equipped version.
Lighter: Agility Meets Performance
The 2025 MT-07 has undergone significant weight optimization, tipping the scales at 183 kg — one kilogram lighter than its predecessor. The motorcycle now features 41mm inverted forks, a new chassis, and SpinForged wheels, all of which improve agility and cornering stability. A die-cast aluminium triple clamp, a first for Yamaha’s larger-capacity bikes, adds both premium aesthetics and reduced weight.
Sharper: Aggressive and Distinctive Styling
The updated MT-07 emphasizes its aggressive streetfighter persona with a compact LED headlamp styled to resemble sharp, staring eyes. A newly designed fuel tank and tail unit complete its muscular stance. With neatly packaged hoses and cabling, the overall design is both clean and aggressive, staying true to the MT family’s radical DNA.
Smarter: Advanced Electronics and Rider Aids
At its heart lies the legendary 690cc CP2 parallel-twin engine, now enhanced with an acoustic amplifying system for a more visceral sound and riding experience. For the first time, the MT-07 integrates YCC-T (ride-by-wire throttle), unlocking electronic rider aids such as customizable Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) modes and switchable traction control.
Other standout features include a 5-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity and navigation, cruise control (Y-AMT variant), and radially mounted dual front disc brakes for sharper stopping power.
